Introduction

Overview of Culbertson FFA

The National FFA Organization is the largest student organization in the United States with over 600,000 members.  In Montana we have 80 chapters.  Culbertson was chartered as the 20th chapter in Montana.  FFA is a student organization involved in agricultural education.   FFA prepares students for successful careers and a lifetime of informed choices in the global agriculture, food, fiber and natural resource systems.  FFA makes a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.  We hold contests (CDE’s- Career Development Events) throughout the school year in our Big Muddy district as well as leadership conferences in the fall and state convention in the spring.  Our national convention is in October, and all seniors and juniors strive to go to this in Indianapolis, IN & Louisville, KY.  Different CDE’s are Animal Science, Equine Science, Agronomy, Floriculture, Sales & Service, Farm Business Mgmt., Ag Mechanics, and Leadership which includes Parliamentary procedure, Prepared & Extemporaneous Speaking, Job Interview, Creed speaking and Greenhand.  We have membership dues of $20, but usually the chapter votes to have the chapter pay for dues.  We have an official dress code for males and females.  Our Culbertson chapter works all the sporting event concessions as our financial assistance.  All students must sign up and work concessions.  After 7 concessions worked, the chapter buys the member a new FFA jacket.  All high school students can join FFA.  Requirements are one trimester of agricultural education class every year of high school.
